The timely complaint of  two whistle-blowers namely, Kashif Ahmad and Nishat Anjum led the CBI sleuths to arrest the Branch Manager of Bank of India (BOI) in Kishanganj. On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, the CBI sleuths arrested the manager Om Prakash on a charge of taking a bribe of Rs 12,000 to pass a group loan. Actually, six young boys had applied for group loan of Rs.3 lakh under GLG scheme from local branch of Bank of India. Though the loans were sanctioned, the Branch Manager was dragging his feet and was demanding bribe. The Branch Manager and his tout were caught red-handed during the CBI raid on Tuesday.

CBI Deputy Inspector General (DIG) V K Singh said, "One Kashif Ahmad had faxed a complaint to us on September 22 that the branch manager Om Prakash and his bank agent Mamata Jain was demanding money to pass a group loan." Singh said the complaint was verified by the sleuths yesterday and after filing an FIR, a team from CBI's Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught the branch manager today as he was accepting the graft for two persons.

Kashif Ahmad and Nishat Anjum

Although the CBI DIG said that the complaint was a result of encouraging the public to inform about bribery demands via SMS, but, the courage shown by Kashif and Nishat is really praiseworthy and a lesson for others who are harassed by the bank staff and managers in many parts of the country.

  1. It is indeed a praiseworthy step from Kishanganj in particular. Courage and intention to fight against corruption must have led these youths to take this preventive step. I also regard CBI officials for taking timely step and surely this will be an eye opener for those who are indulged into such malpractice. Hats off for Mr. Kashif Ahmad and Mr. Nishat Anjum............

  2. Bankers appear to have become below the poverty line with respect to earnings and livelihood. We the people of bihar face more corruptions in the State Govt sector officers.Sad for the Whistle blown against the poor bankers. The whistle is loud against Bankers but probably the whistle gets stuck up and doesn't blow when blown against the Govt servants. What a pity for the bankers who at least serve better than the state govt servants.
