Surprisingly, the office of District Magistrate is hardly few meters away from the railway station, but the willingness to nab the corrupt staff, constables and touts are negligible. Kishanganj Railway Station and its commuters are worst sufferer due to mis-management and negligence of the administration.

Indian Railways is under high criticism and scanner for alleged involvement in corruption that in turn affect the common travelers on major scale. One of the biggest Public Sector Organisation controlled by the Government of India, Indian Railways is widely slammed for its ongoing nexus for Tatkal Reservation tickets, safety measures and other issues related to passenger services. Despite, changes in the measures and modus operandi to eradicate or control the corruption especially in Tatkal tickets or confirmed regular tickets at last minute, the Indian Railways is unable to make the things passenger friendly and things are worsening day-by-day. In fact, you can say that the nightmare for Indian Railway passengers start from the day when they plan their trip and continue till they finish their journey to respective destinations. In between getting the confirmed tickets or getting Tatkal tickets, food offered in Rajdhani trains or normal mail or express trains altogether leave the passenger annoyed and they feel themselves at cheated.

Kishanganj Railway Station

The situation has become worst in the district headquarters of Kishanganj, which is having one of the most important railway station on Delhi – Guwahati and Kolkata – Guwahati route. Kishanganj is often referred to as the ‘Chicken Neck’ due to its geographical and political location on India’s map. However, the people of the district are in deep trouble due to corruption in train ticket reservation, safety measures in platforms, parking charges and illegal acts of touts. Every day, the common travelers struggle for getting confirmed tickets especially Tatkal for Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata other cities of India. Reason behind this as per informed sources is the hidden nexus between the touts and railway ticket issuing staff. Since majority of the people travelling from Kishanganj are less literate, hence many time they are misguided by the ticket issuing staff and touts with unavailability of tickets. Most of the time unwillingly they take help of the touts for getting tickets of their desired destinations. The nightmare for passengers not end with ticket booking, they are almost being robbed by the parking staff, vendors and by the constables as well.

Such incidents of active nexus and corruption have been reported time-and-again by the passengers and local newspapers and news channel. But, hardly such reports have moved the District Administration or any strong step is taken by the administration to control such nexus and corruption. Surprisingly, the office of District Magistrate is hardly few meters away from the railway station, but the willingness to nab the corrupt staff, constables and touts are negligible. When the District Administration is claiming and announcing many welfare programmes for the district, Kishanganj Railway Station and its commuters are worst sufferer due to mis-management and negligence of the administration.

Need of the hour is that the current District Magistrate Mr. Aditya Kumar Das should take strong measures and step to control the ongoing corruption at Kishanganj Railway Station. If the District Administration takes the step to control the corruption, the common people bounded to different parts of the country would be highly thankful to him for his ideal administration. Unless those involved in such illegal activities will keep on doing the menace in the outskirts of District Administrator’s office in the coming time without any fear or police and judiciary.
