New Delhi: May 18 is a very big day for the aspiring students who have appeared for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) for the prestigious IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) this year as the results will be declared within few hours. In the year 2012 above 5.6 lakh students had appeared in the IIT-JEE, which was conducted on April 8. As per official stats of IIT the maximum number of applications were received from Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) zone followed by Chennai (Tamil Nadu) zone. Unlike previous years, this year too IIT-JEE 2012 came into controversy as the IITs admitting that two questions in the question paper were incorrect. The examination committee gave zero marks to the candidates for the two questions.

IIT JEE 2012 results
The exams were held at 1,067 centres across the country for admission to nearly 9,600 undergraduate seats in the 15 IITs. As of now there are 15 IITs across the country, namely IIT-Bhubaneshwar, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Indore, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Madras, IIT-Mandi, IIT-Patna, IIT-Rajasthan, IIT-Roorkee and IIT-Ropar. On the basis of JEE results and rank, the qualifying candidates also get admission in the institutions like Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad along with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Indian Maritime University (TS Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai campus, Marine Engineering & Research Institute, Kolkata, National Maritime Academy, Chennai, Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam).

Note: Only those candidates who attempted both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for the ranking. Marks in Physics in IIT-JEE 2012 will be equal to marks in Physics section of Paper 1 plus marks in Physics section of Paper 2. Similar procedure will be followed for Chemistry and Mathematics. The sum of the marks obtained in the individual subjects in IIT-JEE 2012 will be the aggregate marks for the candidate.
In order to qualify a candidate needs to score at least 10 per cent marks in each of the three subjects and a minimum of 35 per cent to get a rank.
