The selfstylish ‘Evergreen Romantic Superstar’ Dev Anand is no more in this world. The 88 year old veteran actor of Indian Cinema took his last breath on the night to December 3, 2011 in London, United Kingdom. Dev Anand died of cardiac arrest! As per family sources he was not keeping well for the last few days and survived by his son Sunil when he breathed last. A heartiest tribute to the great actor, human being and most importantly the live-hearted person, who proved the “Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhaata Chala Gaya, Har Fiqr ko Dhuyen me udaata chala gaya”, the famous couplets of his superhit movie Hum Dono (1961) till his last breath. Playing the character of an army man in Hum Dono, the young Dev Anand made the song of Hum Dono his life and never felt down even in ailing age of 80s.

Born on September 26, 1923 at Shakargarh, Gurdaspur in Punjab, Dev Anand did his debut in Bollywood as an actor with Hum Ek Hain (1946). Dev Anand had special penchant for award ceremonies, and he had hardly missed any award ceremony and always increased the limelight the gathering with his presence. The award ceremony hosts had always pleased Dev Sahab by calling him to stage and asking him question about his self-proclaimed style and mantra for live. Dev Sahab used to thrill the audience with this shayari and precious words. Some of his superhits movies are Munimji (1955), Kalapani (1958), Love Marriage (1959), Kala Bazar (1960), Hum Dono (1961) and Guide (1966). In 1970s Dev Anand has given many acclaimed movies like Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971), Tere Mere Sapne (1971), Heera Panna (1973), Warrant (1975), Darling Darling (1977) and Des Pardes (1978). Dev Anand was in his 60s but he never looked old in working with young ladies Tina Munim and Padmini Kolhapuri. Fact is that, Dev Sahab never pretended himself old so his love for attractive clothes and doing movies never ended. The veteran Dev Anand after crossing 60s continued his journey further with little successful movies like Hum Naujawan (1985), Lashkar (1989), Awwal Number (1990 – with Aamir Khan), Sau Crore (1991), Censor (2000). Even in the year 2011 his had acted in his self directed movie ‘Chargesheet’ that released a couple of months back.

Dev Anand has directed 19 films and produced 31 films of which 7 directorial ventures and 18 films respectively were commercially successful at the box office. He wrote the story for 13 of his films. Critics say his directorial ventures have always been ahead of its time. Dev Anand's films are well known for their hit songs. He is known to have been an active participant in the music sessions of a number of his films. His association with music composers Shankar-Jaikishen, O. P. Nayyar, Kalyanji-Anandji, Sachin Dev Burman and his son Rahul Dev Burman, lyricists Hasrat Jaipuri, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Neeraj, Shailendra, Anand Bakshi, and playback singers Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar produced some very popular songs. In February 2011, his 1961 black and white film Hum Dono was digitised and colourised and released.

Dev Anand demise is a great loss for the Indian film fraternity and the country as well. However, we the current generation of India who becomes dejected after any failure can take a lesson from the Hum Dono (1961) Song, “Barbadiyon Ka Sog Manaana Fizool tha, Barbadiyon Ka Jashn Manata Chala Gaya”. In fact, the whole song “Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhaata Chala Gaya” of Hum Dono is a great source of inspiration for all. Below is the full sung written by legendry Sahir Ludhianvi, composed by Jaidev and sung by Mohammad Rafi.

Main zindagi ka saath nibhaata chala gaya

Har fikr ko dhuyen me udaa

Barbadiyon ka sog manaana fizool tha

Barbadiyon ka sog manaana fizool tha

Manaana fizool tha, manaana fizool tha

Barbadiyon ka jashn manata chala gaya

Barbadiyon ka jashn manata chala gaya

Har fikr ko dhuyen me udaa

Jo mil gaya usiko muqaddar samajh liya

Jo mil gaya usiko muqaddar samajh liya

Muqaddar samajh liya, muqaddar samajh liya

Jo kho gaya main usko bhulaata chala gaya

Jo kho gaya main usko bhulaata chala gaya

Har fikr ko dhuyen me udaa

Gham aur khushi me fark na mahsoos ho jahan

Gham aur khushi me fark na mahsoos ho jahan

Na mahsoos ho jahan, na mahsoos ho jahan

Main dil ko us mukaam pe laata chala gaya

Main dil ko us mukaam pe laata chala gaya

Main zindagi ka saath nibhaata chala gaya

Har fikr ko dhuyen me udaata chala gaya……………….
