Kishanganj, May 26, 2011: A team of Railway Vigilance department raided the booking counter of Kishanganj railway station on Thursday without any prior intimation. The team found illegal broker Aftab Alam at the reservation counter, who had been later arrested and handed over to RPF Kishanganj. The vigilance team also noticed the malfunction in the account at reservation counter of Kishanganj, and nabbed one commercial reservation clerk & two reservation clerks.
Vijendra Tiwari, the vigilance officer said that the raid was done based on the complaints received regarding the illegal activities in railway ticket reservation process. There were other officials during the raid conducted by the vigilance department of the railways.
The illegal means for railway reservation is on peak nowadays. There are thousands of illegal ticket brokers who work in association with the clerks appointed at the reservation counters. In Kishanganj district illegal ticket reservation has become a business and around 100 brokers are active in the district headquarters and other parts of the district. The brokers charge anything between Rs. 100 and 1000 for railway ticket reservation, and provide tickets with fake name. In fact, these brokers are part of a racket and always trouble the common people at the railway reservation counter in association with the clerks at the ticket window.
Although, this untimed raid has led to arrest of one broker, but the need of the hour is that that railway should nab other brokers as well who are active in all parts of Kishanganj and nearby Uttar Dinajpur district. Most importantly, this type of activity is done with the involvement of railway reservation officials itself. Hence, the vigilance team should also nab the railway officials as well. Being a common citizen, we should bring the issue to vigilance team time-to-time to stop the corruption in India.
